MathCounts

East Tipp MathCounts is a two-phase program. During the school phase, meetings are held once per week in the cafeteria before school for any interested East Tipp student. Students are broken into teams and compete against other teams on challenging, non-standard mathematics problems. The school phase begins in late September or early October and continues until mid November.

In mid November, the second phase begins. East Tipp enters a MathCounts Chapter competition at Purdue in February, so East Tipp's team is chosen from students who have participated in the first phase. These eight to ten students begin rigorous training in preparation for this event. If our team does well at the Chapter, we could qualify for the State competition in March. East Tipp students have qualified for the state finals twenty-six times in the last thirty-one years and placed in the top ten in the state ten times.

More information about this year's MathCounts season will follow as practice and competition dates are announced. You can get more information about MathCounts from their website. If you have any questions about East Tipp MathCounts, talk to Mr. Rice today!
