Choir

combined choirs on stage

Students participating in choir perform music of various cultures, languages, genres, and time periods. Students learn proper singing technique, vocal health and anatomy, music vocabulary, and basic music theory. Each ensemble focuses on singing two-, three-, and four-part harmonies, but solo opportunities may also be available. Singers also explore the “story behind the text” and the history of pieces being prepared.

Singers in sixth and seventh grade perform in four concerts throughout the year, each at ETMS. Eighth-grade singers perform at three “home” concerts as well as represent ETMS at the Northside Choral Festival and ISSMA organizational contest.

In addition to the ETMS choral performances, individual singers may also choose to participate in the ISSMA Solo & Ensemble Contest and/or IMEA's Circle the State with Song.
