Sixth-grade Wellness students are using a program called FitnessGram to analyze their overall fitness.  The program tests students' cardiovascular endurance, strength, and flexibility.

Students will also be running the Pacer Test several times this school year, and they should show increases in their endurance and scores each run.  Students should each have a goal in mind before they run the Pacer, and teachers will provide information on tracking their scores throughout the school year. The Pacer test is an accurate way to measure aerobic capacity because it is progressive in intensity and allows students to keep a certain pace throughout the run. It is easier at the beginning and gets harder at the end of the run.  Students really enjoy seeing their scores improve each time, and this is a fun way to encourage physical activity at school and at home.

Students will be completing “fun runs” and mile runs throughout the school year as well. We also encourage all parents to participate in physical activity with their child at home, whether it is going for a bike ride, a light jog, or a walk, just make it fun and do it together!  Make sure to ask your son or daughter how the first Pacer test went; we look forward to seeing their improvements throughout the school year!
