Waves Resonate with Sixth-Grade Students
the sixth-grade team

As part of their waves unit, sixth-grade students in Mr. Rhodes’ science classes explored the properties of sound and light through a series of hands-on investigations. Throughout the week, students actively engaged in experiments designed to help them better understand how waves behave and interact with different materials.

Students experimented with a variety of tools and materials, including sound tubes, lasers, musical instruments, Slinkys, spectroscopes, simulators, and prisms. These activities allowed students to observe wave motion, investigate how waves travel through different media, and explore key concepts such as speed, wavelength, and frequency in meaningful contexts.

By participating in these interactive investigations, students were able to make connections between abstract scientific concepts and everyday experiences, such as music, light, and communication. The unit encouraged curiosity, collaboration, and critical thinking while helping students build a strong foundation in physical science.
