During 6th Grade Wellness, students are using a program called FitnessGram to analyze their overall fitness. It tests their cardiovascular endurance, strength, flexibility, etc. Students will be running the Pacer several times this school year, and they should show increases in their endurance/scores each run. They each should have a goal in mind before they run the Pacer, and teachers provide information on previous runs and tracking their scores throughout the school year. The Pacer test is an accurate way to measure aerobic capacity because it is progressive in intensity and allows students to keep a certain pace throughout the run. It is easier at the beginning and gets harder at the end of the run. Students really enjoy seeing their scores improve each time, and this is a fun way to encourage physical activity at school and at home. Students also will be completing "fun runs" and mile runs throughout the school year as well. We encourage all parents to participate in physical activity with their child at home, whether it is going for a bike ride, a light jog, a walk, just make it fun and do it together! Make sure to ask your son or daughter how they did on their first Pacer test, and we look forward to seeing their improvements throughout the school year.
