During 6th Grade Physical Education, students are using a program called FitnessGram to analyze their overall fitness- it tests their cardiovascular endurance, strength, flexibility, etc. Students have been running the Pacer several times already this school year and are showing increases in their endurance/scores each run. They each should have a goal in mind before they run the Pacer, and teachers provide information on previous runs and tracking their scores throughout the school year. The Pacer test is an accurate way to measure aerobic capacity because it is progressive in intensity and allows students to keep a certain pace throughout the run. It is easier at the beginning and gets harder at the end of the run. Students really enjoy seeing their scores improve each time, and this is a fun way to encourage physical activity at school and at home.
